Antique Egyptian Faience-Glazed Isis Ring | Grand Tour Era (c. 1780-1920s)
Hand-carved and fired, this ancient Egyptian blue-glazed faience stone ring depicting the Goddess Isis ring is truly a beautiful piece. Whether installed as display art, looped onto a necklace as a pendant, or worn on the hand, this artifact is a must have for any ancient Egyptian civilization enthusiast.
Isis was an Egyptian Goddess who played many important roles. She was the Goddess of love, healing, fertility, magic and the moon. She could restore human souls back to life, as well as welcoming the dead into the afterlife. One of her most important symbols was the "Isis Knot," which represented her own blood that Ancient Egyptians considered a potent symbol of protection when entering the afterlife.
This piece was made by local Egyptians for affluent visitors who traveled to Egypt on educational "Grand Tours" of various archaeologically significant sites between 1780-1920s; a time also known as the "Egyptian Revival Period."
This Egyptian ring is attested to as authentic and to have been made in Egypt during the “Grand Tour/Egyptian Revival” era by Mr Matthew Wicks of Ancient Hands, Ltd, and is accompanied by a digitally signed PDF copy of its "Provenance & Ownership" documentation.
