RARE Bernard Cathelin Lithograph | Signed & Numbered (31/125)
This Circa 1970s untitled, signed & numbered (31/125) lithograph by the famed Bernard Cathelin depicts two men on horseback, most likely in Mexico. The horses are cloaked in long southwest style saddle blankets, while the men wear wide-brimmed sombreros. Simple yet elegant in design, this piece holds your attention as the scene develops.
Famous for oil paintings and lithographs with a richness of texture and color, his favorite artistic themes were still life, landscapes, and portraits of women. Cathelin traveled extensively, creating unique art in such places as Mexico, Russia, Japan, Italy and Spain.
Bernard Cathelin (20 May 1919 – 17 April 2004) was a French painter born in Paris and a member of the School of Paris which included Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, and Dufy. Although Cathelin received critical acclaim as early as 1950, he was not able to live solely from his painting until 1955. Since then, Cathelin received increasing recognition and has been featured in over 50 exhibitions worldwide.
