Nestor Fruge (1916-2012) was a New Orleans born American postwar & contemporary impressionist painter and an iconic artist of the French Quarter.

This original signed & dated (1975) watercolor on paper is a fine example of his style and in excellent condition. The image is beautifully framed by a light-blue matte, The scene depicts a bustling street with a horse-drawn carriage riding into the distance, an iconic French Quarter lamp post stands off to the left near a bright red awning. The nearest buildings stand foreboding and powerful; yet the most interesting detail just may be the outlined mother and daughter in the lower left watching the viewer/artist intently. The artwork is signed "N Fruge 75" in the lower right corner. Taped to the back of the frame is the address of both his home & studio at the time.

Fruge’s French Quarter watercolor scenes are ubiquitous and instantly recognizable. His subjects tended to cluster around certain areas; not surprisingly, since he spent a significant portion of his early life in New Orleans, and would often carry his easel to Jackson Square, joining the other painters there to hone their craft.
